Social networking websites are very popular. So are malicious programs that hijack people’s accounts. This week’s article looks at how this happens and the impact that it has. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that shows you have read the article, expresses your views, and addresses my questions.
Have you ever had an experience like those described in the article or do you know someone who has had such an experience? If so, how was the account compromised and what happened? Why do you think that people hack other people’s accounts? What advice would you give to avoid having this happen? What would you recommend doing if this does happen?

To me, i think that hacking into some one`s account is stupid and there is no point in doing so. I was once hacked on my own account on a website called www.bebo.com, it is a bit like facebook. The person who hacked me did it for a joke but in a serious case it would have been very annoying to me. What happend was that my whole site , a lot of work , was taken away, a lot of pictures and information and freinds , so it would be harder for me to talk to them, this was only once i was already deleting my account so my freind was just having some fun. I think people hack other peoples acounts to hurt them in some cases, to show anger , to annoy them, and in serious cases to steal their money, my advice to people is to never give out anything valuable about your information and keep your passwords strong
I have had an experience like the one described but only stuff was sent to me like the article talked about. I think that people would hack other peoples accounts because they don't have anything better to do and if they know that person in real life they might be trying to annoy them. Advice I would give to help people avoid this problem is to have strong passwords. If this does happen (account hacked) I would suggest to delete your account and make a new one.
The link viruses happened to me a lot. I don't do face book stuff but from msn and mail after opening my friend's suspicious mail, I've been sending unknown mails to my friends. Actually, i abandoned the account of it, because I wasn't aware what should I do. I guess hack is one way to advertise for selling stuff, because most of people trust links and mails from people they know. So, to avoid this kind a problem, people shouldn't open the suspicious link and they should often change their password. If that doing happens, I recommend to check the virus scan program, and check it. Asking for the help from the account manager will be also helpful.
I have never had my computer hacked into because my computer has barely ever had connection to the internet. This is why I don't know how my account would be hacked. I think people hack into other peoples account so they can commit identity theft and find out vital information like credit card numbers. I would not put any information on my accounts that can be used for identity theft so it wouldn't matter if my account was hacked. If my account got hacked then I would delete it so it can't be used.
In my opinion, hacking into another persons account is very useless and serious. People use their accounts to store information they dont want other people to see, including information about their personal life, and financial life (credit card numbers). When I was little I used to always try to steal passwords of friends, and have never succeeded, but my intentions were not to steal information, but I was just bored. Always use different passwords for various accounts, and change your password from time to time, to be on the safe side.
I don't find any point of hacking into an account. I accounts have been hacked like two times. My Orkut and Hotmail account. My friend saw the password of my hotmail account and secretly used it by chatting with my friends. I got to find out when one of my friends called me by the hackers name. The other Orkut account got hacked by me clicking on a link. The hacker made my account join certain adult groups like groups in facebook. I fixed both the problems by changing password. I think, people hack peoples account just for fun. They sometimes admire doing it as it is not something everyone knows. To prevent such things, I think people should not click on any suspicious links and keep their passwords safe. Keep changing it like once a month. If your account is hacked, just change the password and be careful from next time.
I have never personally had any of my online accounts (social networking, YouTube, email, or other) hacked. However, I know many friends who have had their Facebook accounts hijacked and used for a variety of purposes, ranging from (relatively) benign practical jokes to spreading spam or virus-infected messages. For example, earlier this fall, several of my friends appeared to have had their accounts hacked. The hacker had the victim’s account bombard their Facebook friends with messages claiming that a website had a recorded video of the message recipient (complete with a link to entice the reader). Honestly, I feel that people hack the accounts of others for a variety of reasons. Usually, they do so to advertise another website, but occasionally, people have hacked the accounts of others simply because they can, and they usually cause chaos on the hacked accounts. I would recommend establishing a strong password that would be difficult to guess (and involving a variety of different characters), as well as occasionally changing the password every so often (I would recommend once a year). If your account is hacked, I would notify everyone who may have been affected by the hacker’s actions, close the account, and set up a new one with a better password.
