Virtual College Fairs
The thought of going to college is exciting. It is a major change in your life and a de facto step toward independence in your life. The preparation for this requires research, resources, and resilience. Going to visit colleges is part of the process, but that can be expensive – especially if you want to visit a college that is far away. One company has a potential solution: virtual college fairs. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that addresses my questions and expresses your thoughts about the topic.
How useful would a virtual college fair be to you? When would be the best time to have one? We missed the fair that was held in March, but there will be another one next fall. Go to the CollegeWeekLive website and look at the information that they offer on their Web pages. Identify some aspects of the website that would be beneficial and some that would not be worthwhile. What do they need to add to make their virtual college fair better? Should our school make students aware of this website? Seniors, even though you probably have already decided on a school, your input would be helpful for those who are coming after you. Would you recommend that students investigate this website?

It will without a doubt, have an extremely positive effect on me and will save quite a good sum of money. Best time to have one is at the beginning of the year for seniors, it should open their eyes a bit more and to what options they have. Not to mention they will see it for themselves, and decide what they like and what they don't. Well on the website I've noticed them offering bonuses and chances of getting small fee to help out with scholarships. But all in all, I don't know how much we can trust the site itself. I mean it might be biased for all we know, and show us only certain parts, the better parts, of a college and ignore the negative part about that specific college. I believe they need a system where you will be able to compare the main headlines of two colleges. Where for example, you want to compare Harvard to Yale, they should offer a service to tell you what you'd benefit and lose if you decided on either one. Yes of course the school should introduce the site to its students. But they mentioned in the article on how some countries were unable to participate due to their slow Internet, and I believe we will face the same problem in Jordan. In my personal opinion, there's no bad side in trying the site out and giving it a shot. Not to forget the fact it will be saving you the money for your plane ticket. Just to conclude, I think we should all try this site out, but only after we figure out reliable it is.
Since I plan on going to a College in the U.S. and I live in the Middle East, a virtual tour would be very useful to me. I think the best time to have one would be once every month so that students could look at various colleges over time instead of having to do them all at once. I believe that ACS should make the students aware of this website so they will be able to look at colleges more often.
College fair's online will not affect me whatsoever. As for my younger sister, it won't affect her either because I don't see them with any use. I mean, you can get the full college experience visit from going to the schools. That way you can also pick which school you'd like to see, which you'd like to go to. If you don't. I think college virtual tours would work better rather than a cluster of a bunch of colleges talking about themselves. If you want to look for colleges, check out their website. I don't see this worth much
At this time I’m not looking at colleges. I have two more years left in high school and after that than I would really appreciate a virtual tour. It would save me, and others time and money if it could happen over the web. The best time to have a virtual tour would probably be a few months before applying to colleges. That was a person can get a feel of the colleges and what they are like and than the person can apply to whatever college he desires. Beneficial aspects are how the site offers interviews with college students and teachers through the site. That would give a really good feel about the college and what the students think about it. I couldn’t find any aspects that weren’t worthwhile. The site is mostly beneficial because it their to help students choose where they should study. I actually thought the site was pretty well created. I don’t see anything more that needs to be added. The site is well built with many options and choices for the people. Yes our school should make students aware of this website but it shouldn’t be a mandatory thing, like the school could just recommend it since it is a very good site that would really help students in making their college choices. If I was a senior and I was graduating than I’d probably recommend this site for it could only be helpful and beneficial.
Virtual college fair would be useful to me because it will give me an insight idea about the college. The best time have a virtual college fair would be during junior and senior year. Websites would be useful for general information but it does not give insight idea about college such as environment, local atmosphere, and social life. Making a 3D virtual world of college will give the user a full insight of college. Yes, students should be aware of this because it can help them to determine the college. Indeed, I highly recommend that students investigate this website.
Well since I am living overseas a virtual college fair would be very useful to me. Well I believe that the best time to have them would be the beginning of every year as well as the end. A lot of the video chats aren’t that necessary because Q & As can be done in writing and will still give the same information while video chats with current students would be very beneficial to be able to see how they actually like it. They should add video recordings of campuses during a normal day so that students can see what the colleges’ atmosphere is like. Yes I would recommend this website to future seniors it will help them decide on a college, while making the blind side gap smaller. And yes our school should make students aware of this website.
I think college fairs would be a great idea especially for people like me. International students have a hard time trying to make it to college fairs across the region, so this virtual college fair would be great. I think a college fair in the fall and in the spring would be a great time to have these college fairs. Here in Jordan, we need to make sure that our students know about this site because I felt that it was very beneficial to students of all grade levels. As a senior, I would recommend this site to the juniors who are having a hard time deciding which college to attend. It gives juniors an extra edge when choosing the college they want.
At this point, I don’t think I can use one since I’m graduating in 2 years. But I will probably need on when the time comes. The best time to apply would be right before college. The site offers a lot of stuff than can save a lot of time, you can interview collage teachers and students. That way you are prepared and know what you need. There are many other aspects that save time and help you a lot since they are all in one place. It also helps you pick the perfect place; it all depends on what you are looking for. Yes, our school should defiantly make the site well known on the campus; this site can lead you to a better future.
A virtual college fair would be very helpful in deciding to choose the college that best fits the student. Best time to have one would be the beginning of the senior year, when the students can decide which universities to apply to and what to expect from them. The CollegeWeekLink website would have really helped choose the right college with its special live video sessions, talk with the admission experts, a virtual exhibit hall, college booths and an access to hundreds of universities. It could enhance itself by offering more scholarship programs. The school should make the students aware of this website, and I would recommend students to visit this website.
A virtual college fair would be a quick solution to many of the problems that potential applicants suffer from. I would find this idea to be quite useful considering that I am now a Junior in high-school and will be needing to make a choice soon as to where I will apply for higher level learning. The best time to have a virtual college fair is during the summer. During the summer, people are not troubled or worried by many responsibilities, therefore, they will have plenty of time to spend on their computers to look at virtual college fairs. The useful components of the CollegeWeekLive website are the listing of colleges, so that their viewers have a wide array from colleges to investigate and look into. Another useful advantage offered by the CollegeWeekLive website is their scholarship program.
A virtual college would not be so useful for me, mainly because the college I am planning on applying to is in Egypt, which happens to be the place I am going to spend my summer. I am also thinking of England however, and in that case a virtual college fair would be very helpful. The best time to have one I think would be in the fall, at the beginning of the school year to give people options and time to think about them. I think in the website it is very helpful to list the colleges that are participating in the program, but I think that the video contest is too much. It really doesn’t matter if someone has an interesting video, let alone paying him or her $2,500 for it. They should have a wider variety of colleges and universities, not only ones that are in the US. There are many international students like myself who actually don’t want to go to America. It would be helpful to have a wider variety.
(Second part of blog) However, I do not consider the video contest application to be a worthwhile tool on this online college fair. If they wish to update or improve this site, they should add international colleges to their site, rather than just American colleges. And absolutely, our school should make their students, particularly for Juniors and Seniors.
This virtual college fair would surely be greatly useful, and best time to have one would be at the very beginning of your high school life and your senior year. I believe Real-time, interactive Q&A sessions with admissions officials would be definitely helpful for every student who’s planning to attend a college in the US. However, I’m pretty sure that the site is not 100% reliable. Schools should make their students visit the site at least once, yet not mandatory. I’d probably recommend that students investigate this website.
I think that the virtual college fairs will be extremely useful to me because I am the lazy time that does not enjoy college hunting. I think that once every a couple of months will probably be the best time because I think it is a boring thing to look for colleges. I can’t find anything in the website that is beneficial or not worth while because I did not know how to navigate the website. I think that our school should make the seniors aware of this website because it might be very beneficial to them.
A virtual college fair would be beneficial to me actually because I would love to see how the different colleges would be like but I wouldn't want to travel to each one. This way, you can still have the experience. I think that the best time to have one would be during some time of the junior year. This way, the juniors can have the virtual college fair and still be able to choose the colleges they want to apply for. I don't think it would be a smart idea to have it during the senior year because they would have already applied to the colleges that they felt was best. On collegeweeklive.com, I like how you can have video sessions with the admissions counselors of the schools. It almost defeats the purpose of visiting the school. I also like how you can video chat with the current college students. You are able to get a feel of what it's like to chat with college students and you can ask those questions about the school that you might want to attend. The website also gives you a list of colleges that participate in the event. There is also a segment of the website that is specifically for your parents. You should always do things when you're thinking about colleges with your parents in mind. One thing that I think is pretty pointless is the fact that they offer a video contest to win 2,500$ scholarship. One thing that could possible enhance a students interest in the college fair is to have pictures of the dorms. Although dorms aren't necessarily important, it's the grades that count; students still care about where they might be living. I don't think they need to add anything else to make the college fair better. Our school can maybe mention this website at one of its Sunday Assembly's but I don't think it's necessary to make everyone aware of the website. I don't really think that this would help students really; it would just kind of benefit you slightly. But most people have different techniques in looking for something and in this case its colleges.
At the moment it wouldn’t be very useful because I’m not graduating until 2010. So I have 2 more years before I have to start thinking about it. Some aspects on the CollegeWeekLive website are: Live Video Sessions with Admissions Experts, Video Chat with Current College Students, win a scholarship, and video contest. The website pretty much has everything a person needs to know about the colleges. It seems to be useful so I do think that our school should make seniors aware of the website. Even though I’m not a senior I do recommend this website to others, I know when the time will come I’ll use this website to check out colleges.
I think the idea of having a virtual idea college website is a good idea. Most of the time, college websites only have a description and some photos about the school. A virtual college tour will offer a better insight to the college. It will also allow students to visit schools from their homes since sometimes it is not always convenient to travel in order to visit the schools. The best time to have one would be at the beginning of senior year because that is when the majority of students begin their serious college search. Overall I think the virtual college is a good idea because not only does it offer a lot of useful information, it also enables students to have interviews with the school. I definitely think schools, including ACS, should help students become more aware for the website. I think the website should offer the students something to encourage them to resort to it more often, for example give out free college sweatshirts to students who visit the virtual college.
A virtual college fair would not be helpful to me at this time, given that I already know where I'm going, but I would have greatly appreciated it last fall. It would be best to experience a college fair around the middle of 11th grade, and then again at the beginning of twelfth grade. This site should not be a student's only source for college searching, because it has, out of 3,000 schools in the USA, there are only a few "participating" schools. Also, since the schools have to sign up to be included, the information might be slightly biased, which could make it hard to tell if a school REALLY is right for you. Our school should make any college-search resources available to students, but it should never be as easy as a college fair, virtual or otherwise. I would recommend that students visit this website, but I also recommend that they get one of those huge Princeton Review books, and talk to everyone they know in college, and try to visit as many places as possible.
A college virtual tour will be very important to me because it can save me a lot of money on traveling to different schools in different states until I find one I like. The best time to have one is your senior year in high school during first semester, this would be because you would have a semester to find one you like. This site is important because it helps students pick a college. I don’t think there is anything wrong with this website. Our school, ACS, should definitely get make students aware of this site because it can help them with their future.
