Internet Bus

You have seen and probably experienced Wi-Fi in different locations: coffee shops, airports, etc. This week’s article looks at an innovative use of Wi-Fi that a school is trying. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that shows you have read the article, expresses your views, and addresses my questions.

How would you feel about converting the school’s buses to Internet buses? What would be the advantages? What problems would it create? Would it be fair? It would cost the school extra money to do this and students without laptops would not benefit. What about charging extra for people who use their laptops to surf on the bus? Would having Internet access on the buses make a difference in behavior? How much more homework would get done if we had this benefit?

I think that it would be rather nice to have internet on school buses. Advantage will be that students will be able to use the internet whenever they want to and have a nice time in the bus staying online and using the net. They can also do research for any project that requires internet. By having internet on the buses, the bus might become very noisy. Say, one of the kids finds this really awesome video that he/she wants to show others, he/she might call others and there will be a huge crowd near that person and and the bus will become noisy. That will make it hard for the driver to concentrate. Other disadvantage will be that students might start to download movies, games, or software which will make the internet slow for others. So, if the internet becomes slow for others, it won't be fare. If students don't have laptops, they can always use their cell phones if they have wifi. If students don't have all that, they will just have to get such devices to get the benefit of bus internet or maybe the school should charge for those who use internet at school and in bus and not for those who don't use it. There could also be a disadvantage on that. Those who don't pay for bus internet might still use the bus internet through their cell phones. Even if the teachers keep in track of who pays for the internet and who doesn't. Students can use their wifi cell phones to use their internet. To prevent this, there should be a internet profiles made for each student who pay for the internet and by logging into that, students can access the internet. Those who don't have such profiles, won't be able to use the internet. That will still use up a lot if expenses. By having internet on basses, their won't be much differences on the behavior on students maybe they will be more stuck to their laptops and cell phones than taking to one another. I don't think most students will do homework on the bus even if they have access to internet. They might do their homework if it is due on that day and they are lagging behind. Otherwise, I don't think there would be much of a benefit on doing homework than doing other fun things.

I think it would be brillant to have internet on school buses. The good things about it would be that on the way to or from school the studants could either chill on the net or they could be doing something related to their school work. A disadvantage of this may be that it usually does not take that long for studants to get to school or home, so they wont have a lot of time on the net. They might also be distracted by the use of such things like MSN. To combat this, there should be studants personal accounts so teachers can keep track of who is on the right things.I do not think it would be a good idea though, as it would be costly and studants would not be able to concentrate on their homework as there is many distractions on the internet.

I would not mind if buses had internet, but i would not prefer for everyday to be on a computer. The advantages you could have would be to get your work done, study, and to not fall behind in your classes. Problems it would create is that people might damage or steal other peoples laptops. It wouldn't be fair. And I don't think that it would be worth all the extra money. It would also not be fair if they charged extra for people using there computers, for some they could think that it would be better if they didn't bring a computer. I think that having internet on the bus would change behavior but after a while people might get bored with it and go back to their old ways. Some homework would get done but would benefit; depending on the persons study habits.

I don't get the point of the internet buses. People try to do internet in the short period while they are transporting to someplace? That might have some advantages, but I don't think that is worth compared to the time that they are using. For advantages, they would save the time in the bus, by studying or doing something others. But I think it would cause more problems as doing games for computer, and watching the small monitor while the bus moves, it would greatly damage the eye. If they really need an internet in the bus, I think school is one who have to pay. People who doesn't have laptop, then sorry, you don't have to use it. But if school thinks internet is really necessary, then they should be the one who is paying for the public utility. For example, like starbucks, people pay for the coffee, but they don't pay for the internet. As a service they are providing internet to people. When they have internet in the bus, I think there won't be any conversation among people. There would be nothing else but the sound of typing. The point of my argument is why do we have to do homework at the bus? Don't they have time to do at home? I think people would prefer to do something else than homework.

I would enjoy the ability to use the Internet on the bus to and from school, but I honestly feel that for the length of my ride (about 15 to 20 minutes), it is just not worth the effort. If I had to travel farther to get to school (for example, when I lived in India, I spent an hour and a half every day in a school bus to get to and from school), it would be more practical. I think that “Internet buses” would provide students with some time to work or simply do basic, important things like check email. However, I probably would not pay to use it, because I feel that a bus is probably not the ideal working environment. I think that students would generally be more quiet and orderly if they were using the Internet, but probably no different than if they were listening to an iPod. Furthermore, I do not feel that many students would get a lot of homework done, and would probably either not use it due to their short rides, or perhaps use it for activities like Facebook.

I think it would be a waste of money for me because I usually get sick on buses when I try to catch up on homework before school. Advantages of having internet on buses is that people who don't get carsick easily can catch up on homework easier. The problems that it can create are students looking up inappropriate content or downloading stuff. I do not think that internet on buses is fair or even logical. Charging specific people who use internet on buses would be very difficult and would probably take the school a lot of time to work out who has been on the internet and who has not. Having internet on the buses probably won't change behavior much. To me, not much more homework will get done but maybe other people can find time on the bus to finish homework without feeling nauseas.

I would love for the school's bus's to be internet bus's because I ride the bus and I get home after a one-hour ride. The advantages would be that I would have something to pass the time. It might create problems like people going onto websites that they shouldn't be on because there is no supervision from a teacher. Yes it would be fair in my opinion. The school should charge more, it is their right. And the people without laptops shouldn't complain because that is their own problem. The behavior would change for some people but not drastically. People that would use the time to actually do their homework will get a lot done on a bus ride if we had this benefit.
