Most people enjoy listening to some form of music. Music companies are in business to get people to listen to their music and to make money. This week’s article is about some of the innovations that companies are using to get you to pay attention to them. Go to the link below and read the article. Then, write a reflective comment that expresses your views and addresses some of my questions.
The article gives some reasons why music is appropriate for online innovations. Do you fit the profile that the author gives for people your age? Have you heard of any of the companies that are described? Have you experienced any of their innovative ideas? See if you can find more about one of the companies mentioned and their marketing. Is it something that you would tell your friends about? What other innovative ideas would you like to see music companies try in marketing their music?

"Bringing Music to Consumers in the internet age"
I don't really fit the profile for people of my age, i don't really listen to music all that much and i don't think that it could ever be called "the language of the young." I have never heard of any of the companies described in the article except ShoZu sounds sort of familiar, and i don't think I've experienced any of their ideas. I don't think i would tell any of my friends about stuff like this because they all use things like Limwire and other open sharing programs like it. I think music companies should try to advertise their stuff more, especially their websites.
“Bringing Music to Consumers in the Internet Age”
I agree that online music downloading is a good idea; I do it daily on Limewire, and that companies should be able to sell music online is also good, I listen to music alot but i think that calling music, the language of the young is kind of wrong, MSN Slang is the language of the young!I also use a website called “You Tube” to watch some music videos that I want to see, but I have never heard of any of the other companies, though it is very easy to find some information, just go to Google and type in the companies name and then you find the home page and navigate you way to the page you want from there. I also wouldn’t mind if some of the music companies got their acts together and make a site where you can download music videos for a cheap price, how else are you going to get the video? And I don’t have anything to tell my friends because they all already know about these sites, or at least You Tube and Limewire.

After reading “Bringing Music to Consumers in the Internet Age”
I’m not much of a music fan as other manias, but I do like to listen to them because they calm my mind. So I guess that this profile that the author gives for people my age fits me. I have not heard of any of these companies since I don’t know that much of foreign music companies. I only know and am interested in Korean music companies more. Since I’ve never known them, I never had any chance to experience any of their innovative ideas. I searched the Internet for ShoZu and I think it is a good website since you can download music and photo directly off and on the phone. I would probably tell my friends about this site since you can easily download lots of things with a bit of money. If I were to suggest an innovative idea to the music companies, I would suggest them to have a day in a month or several months when you put discounts on the prices of music, such as lowering a 500 cent to a 300 cent price just for that day. In that way, you can get profit because lots of people will download more stuffs on that day.
Music is a way for my generation to express itself. Music tells us a thousand more stories than any book or a poem can. With every generation music changes and evolves. Most of us fit the profile of someone that carries an MP3 player and frequently listens to music. We listen to music so frequently that it feels as if we’re in a movie with a constant soundtrack playing. We listen to so much music because we can easily access it. The internet offers us thousands of websites that give a similar service. Although ShoZu and SellaBand are websites that I have never heard of before, they are but a bucket full of websites that we can choose from.
Is this innovation good or bad? It depends how you look at it. In the customers point of view it’s good, we can download a lot of music for a cheap price. However artists have a harder time making money with their music being sold so cheaply. Everybody at our school fits the profile given because not matter the style of music you listen to we listen to it a lot.
I fit the profile of my generation perfectly, according to the article. I buy many things online rather than going to the store, I would much rather get something for free then to buy it, and love trying new things. I love music and it is definitely my new language. Music keeps me energized for workouts, it keeps me focused on my work, it puts me to sleep and it wakes me up. Normally I operate with music, wherever, whenever. I have never heard of any of the four companies, but I know exactly why most of us haven’t. These companies are not advertising like Itunes, Limewire, Kazaa, Napster, etc… Everyone I know uses Limewire, Itunes, Kazaa, Napster, or all four! I still haven’t heard of anyone using these companies which I would not tell my friends about these companies for two reasons; 1 because they all use the programs I mentioned and because they are not as practical as the programs I mentioned.
Reading this article "bringing music to consumers in the internage age"
This did not really fit the profile of people my age that much, I do listen to music but not allot. I agree that online music downloading is a good idea. I've never hear of a company called ShoZu but I searched it and it’s not that bad. I don’t think that I’ve experience any of their ideas. I would tell my friends about it if I like it but if it was not what I liked I would have warned them that’s its not that good also most of my friends use limewire, bearshare and MP3 torpedo or other sharing programs.
If I was to innovate an idea to a music company, I would suggest that they should put prices down if they were expensive. It does not matter what type of music people listen to or how much it’s that more people download more and it would be very good for the website and the lechers.

I think I do fit the profile that the author describes in the sense that music really is “the language of the young” since teenagers often experience sharper emotions and music seems to appeal to us when we experience sadness, anger, or joy. However, claiming that we’re “more likely to want something for nothing” is a bit harsh and makes us all seem like free-loading delinquents. I have never heard of any of the companies described and therefore have never experienced their innovative ideas. However, I decided to look into Sellaband and see how they function. Apparently bands sell “parts” on the website to teenagers and if they are able to sell 5000, they are then given their own producer, studio, and A&R to record their own album. Sellaband also has a competitor called slicethepie.com, which is supposedly better than Sellaband and has more artists and has already received more donations from viewers. If I lived in a country where donating money online was more accessible, I would probably recommend it to my friends since it helps promote the music that I feel should be promoted rather than music that seems immature and grotesque. I believe companies should always refer back to older music when marketing since a lot of people appreciate the “classical” genre of music—whether it’s rap, rock, pop, or pure classical music—and would like to see such music implemented into society once again.
It is my opinion that the people that have made these deals on the internet for free music downloads and all that certainly makes the internet more attractive to us. I would definitely agree that music is a great part of my life and I fully agree with the companies demonstrating music and the "language of the young" is very true. Not many students can live with out music in their lives for more than the school day.
I have never heard of any of the companies mentioned in this article except of course iTunes. However I download most of my music from Limewire or eMule. more and more companies should be advertising. For instance, with Limewire not many people would still use the iTunes Store. Companies like that should putt out more of an effort to attract people, especially this generation to the better offers that they have. The free giveaway album that was mentioned in the article should have been advertised more like on MSN home page or have to go up for free on iTunes Store or places where more people look.
I could relate to what they are talking about in the article, that the young generation durable to free downloads, web surfing, and listening to music. These new companies are new to me, never heard of untell now. I have been enjoying you tube features and watching it grows over the years and becoming one of the major companies in this business. I think the music websites will grow with time by adding new ways to get nore new customers, Knowing there is alot of space for the internet to grow. Whether, Red91 or Shozu and any other company will make it or not, olny time can tell. But, most likely they will. After all, its the new life style.
I think the article surrounds a topic that has been controversial for sometime now. The question being is free music a crime against the artists or not and how can we sell music in a way that wouldn't promote pirating. I have to say that people my age mostly just want their music, they don't care how but they would prefer it to be for free which is widely available these days with programs such as Limewire and Bearshare. There are also methods with which they can get in contact with their favorite artists, like using MySpace for example. I haven't heard of any of the companies described. The company SellaBand offers bands to help them out with providing the producer and a good amount of money if they obtain a certain number of 'believers' which is 5000. I wouldn't really tell my friends about it because it's mostly concerning the artists and the not the fans. I still like the idea of CDs and everything being digital becomes monotonous after a while. There is still art being put in the CD itself, including the artwork. Every part of that is important to the fan, or at least to me. So i would suggest that they find a new way of selling CDs so that fans would change their minds about them and start buying them again.
I believe that I do fit the profile that the author describes. I’m young and I love listening to music. Unfortunately, I have never heard of these companies except from this article. And also I have not experienced any of their innovative ideas. I guess that it would be a cool thing to tell my friends, but I really don’t seriously trust the idea of sending music via e-mail. It may pick up a virus from somewhere. I’d like the music companies to try more innovative ideas such as downloading music more easily and to have good quality.
