To Twitter or not

Twitter, Tweet, RT – are you familiar with these terms? This week we look at a social networking and micro-blogging service that offers an interesting form of communication. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that shows you have read the article, expresses your views, and addresses my questions.

Have you ever used Twitter? Do you know anyone who uses Twitter? What are some potential uses that you can see for Twitter in school? How might you use Twitter in your personal life? What rules would you propose for Twitter?

I have never used Twitter, and I don’t know anyone who uses it either. I think you can use Twitter for school if you want to know people’s opinions on things and you can also get feedback on any discussion you have in school. I don’t think I will ever use twitter because I already have many accounts on many different things like MSN, Facebook etc. I don’t need another account to use it for my personal life, but if it’s for school then that’s a different situation. I suggest that people should not post any personal information like addresses when using Twitter, for security reasons.

I have never heard of twitter, and frankly, I don’t really have any interest in considering a twitter account, because this is basically describing many of the applications on facebook. I use facebook all the time, and I update/ check my facebook account at least every other day, so using facebook, and ‘Twitter’ would just be a waste of my time, instead wasting only half of my time. Honestly, I would only use this application is a teacher required I for school, but for now I don’t see myself getting a twitter account.

I have never heard and used Twitter, and because of that I don’t know anyone living in this universe uses this application. Such programs might be used in schools by teachers because they are forced to or because a large number of them are using it. Personally I might not use Twitter because I have a Facebook account giving me the chance of chatting with my whole community at the same time, but if I do have a Twitter account I would use it to chat with my friends which is a waste of time in my opinion. Frankly speaking, I would propose for Twitter to insert some rules like “ This application is for teachers only”.

I have never used Twitter, and in fact, I've never heard of this program before this blog. I don't know of anyone who uses Twitter. Twitter would be an easy way for students to get feedbacks on documents. I personally don't think that I would ever use a system like Twitter in my personal life since I already have programs like e-mail and Facebook for my personal life. I think that if Twitter is a program for feedback, then those feedbacks should be clean and kind to people. Also, those feedbacks shouldn't have too much negative critisicms. I also think that people should use some common sense with this system and not put up too much personal information and not go to sites recommended by random strangers.

I do not use Twitter and neither does anyone I know. Teachers shouldn't use Twitter to contact students. Rather then having students use Twitter, perhaps teachers should use adapt to students and use Face book rather then try and implement yet another social network. I don't think that there is any way that Twitter can replace other forms of online communication.

I don't use Twitter.
I never have used Twitter and no one i know uses Twitter. I've actually never heard about it until now.
Twitter can be use at school when it comes to Pen pals.
Also when a student or teacher wants an outsider's opinion on a certain situation, Twitter just might come in handy.
I wouldn't use Twitter. It's nothing personal, it just I've got so much going on with Facebook and Msn and what not, so i can't be bothered to start another one of those internet communications sites.
Rules? Make sure that there aren't any silly or rude things being posted on Twitter. Facebook has that problem, but they solve it by allowing readers to send complaints.
I suggest Twitter do the same.

I have never used Twitter and I have never heard of it either. I don’t know anyone who uses Twitter also. You can use Twitter in school to message your friends if you are bored. I might use Twitter in my personal life to the same way I use Facebook. I think Twitter should have rules that if an account is not use for over three months it should be closed. I am not really interested in Twitter because there are other more popular communication applications like Facebook and Msn.

I personally have never used twitter before. The reason for me not being familiar with twitter is that none of my friends use twitter and so there’s no reason for me to use it.
Twitter is good for schoolwork such as research activities because the second you ask the question your “followers” will post links and comments that help with your research work
I wouldn’t use twitter; I use face book that is similar. But if I used twitter it would be for research reasons. Since you could find information easer and faster.
The most important rule I can think of would be not to post personal information such as your address or number.

I have never even heard of Twitter until this article, and I don’t know anyone that uses it, I think one of my friends may have mentioned it on facebook but I can’t remember. I personally have given up on most of these mindless, time-consuming networks on the internet like MSN messenger, and Myspace, etc. The only one I still use is Facebook, and I’m trying to limit the time I spend on that as well. I also use Skype to call my friends in Kazakhstan, and the States but that is not a network, so I don’t think it counts. So I am not really interested in using Twitter, but if I were to use it for my personal life I might use it to get funny quotes from friends, or to exchange song titles with friends, or maybe to ask well-known celebrities or people like President Obama questions but I would probably focus on friends. In my school life I might use Twitter to get information on projects, or find out the homework and tell people the homework, figure out what topic to pick for an essay etc. The rules that I would propose for Twitter would be to 1) leave it casual/ not to use it too much for business 2) refrain from asking questions like “What’s up?” because they are cyber junk and it doesn’t say much unless you want to begin a conversation 3) don’t follow too many people because you can’t keep up with all of them. These rules were made up quickly and I’m sure that if I actually used Twitter my mind would change, and I’m sure that overall Evan Williams, the chief executive of Twitter is right and that there really aren’t any specific rules but I think that I would have “rules” for my own use of it.
